Joanne Lowe's Meditations

ARE WE HINDERING HIM
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20 (King James Version)

Leila Naylor Morris, who was active in the Methodist church, wrote more than one thousand gospel songs. One of my favorite songs that she wrote is “Let Jesus Come into Your Heart”. I believe that she wrote these words from the depths of her heart. The words in this song offer hope to everyone.

“If you are tired of the load of your sin, Let Jesus come into your heart; If you desire a new life to begin, Let Jesus come into your heart.” For those of us who have humbled ourselves, repented of our sins, asked God to forgive us and invited Jesus into our hearts, we have this new life because Jesus lives in our hearts.

Every Christian should search his or her heart and answer this question “Am I hindering Him?” Are we hindering Jesus from working through us? One of the definitions for the word “hinder” in Webster’s Dictionary is “to delay, impede, or prevent action”. Can Jesus work through you?

There are times because of unforgiveness, jealousy, criticism, hatred, resentment and bitterness that we allow to stay in our hearts, we hinder Jesus from working through us. We need to get rid of these things that stink in the nostrils of Jesus and allow Him to work through us.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we sin at times because of the things in our hearts. We’re sorry we hurt You. Please have mercy on us and forgive us. Help us to be children who make You happy instead of children who make You sad. Amen.
