Poem for Today

Summer Rose
The child runs, laughing
down the track,
then stops to stare,
to wonder at
the subtle shades
of pink and red
that lie ensnared
within the foliage green.
A trembling hand,
reaching out
to touch
the velvet petals,
to taste the perfume
trapped within.
With love that
just a child knows,
enraptured,
captured,
by the summer rose.
