Joanne Lowe's Meditations

HAVE WE GIVEN EVERYTHING TO HIM
“So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”
Luke 14:33 (King James Version)
Evangelist Judson Wheeler Van DeVenter wrote a hymn that should make every Christian search his or her heart “I Surrender All”. Can we honestly say that we have given everything to Jesus? We can fool our families and friends but we can’t fool Him. He knows if we have given everything to Him.
Are these words true in our hearts and lives? “All to Jesus, I surrender; All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.” There are times that we sing hymns and don’t even think about the words we are singing. We allow our minds to wander instead of worshipping God.
We need to give Jesus all of our time, not just when it is convenient for us. A pastor once stopped preaching in the middle of his sermon and said “I can tell that you want me to stop preaching so you can get to the restaurant before anyone else gets in line ahead of you”.
What a sad commentary it is on those of us who claim to be Christians that we are not willing to give Jesus all of our time. Not only did Jesus give us all of His time when He was here on earth, He also willingly gave His life for us on the cross. May God have mercy on us and forgive us for hurting Jesus.
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have sinned because we don’t give Jesus all of our time. When we hurt Your beloved Son, we also hurt You. Help us to give Jesus everything. May we not only give Jesus all of our time but may we also get out of our comfort zones and serve the One who died for us. Amen.
