Joanne Lowe's Meditations

WILL WE EVER LEARN
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15 (King James Version)
My Mother said this to me many times when I was a child “I’ve told you and told you not to do that but you do it anyway.  When will you ever learn?”  If we will listen with our hearts, we will hear our Heavenly Father saying the same thing to us that my Mother said to me.
I wonder how often God has to tell us not to do something before we get it.  He has told us not to go to the places where we used to go before we were saved.  We also need to stay away from the people who were our friends before we were saved.  A real friend will not tempt us to do things that are wrong.
A dear pastor friend of mine who I have known for over twenty years said this in one of his sermons “I have seen time after time people who have just been saved going back to the places they went to before they were saved because they thought that they could persuade their old friends to change their lifestyles.”
The pastor also said in his sermon “It didn’t work and it never will work.  Instead of persuading their old friends to change their lifestyles, their friends persuaded them to leave the church and join them again.  It is dangerous for Christians to go back to those places where they used to go and run with the old crowd”.
If you are going to places where you used to go before you were saved and running around with people who will get you into trouble, you need to understand that not only are you sinning, you are also hurting our Heavenly Father and breaking His heart.  Are you breaking our Heavenly Father’s heart?
