Meditation on John 1: verses 1 to 14

John 1 (NIV)

The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
It is in Jesus Christ that we can find and receive life. Life without Him is nothing but a shadow of what we can have with Him. The life that He gives us is filled with promise and hope, and is not life transient as the life in the world is, but life eternal, spent with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
John was sent by God as a witness to the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, and we are to be witnesses also once we have seen and accepted the Light. We are to be beacons in our homes, our communities and the world. No matter how hard the world tries to extinguish the Light and these days in particular the world in which we live seems to be doing its bet to do just that the Light cannot be extinguished. The world is ruled by Satan, and that is why it sometimes seems that sin prevails, yet Jesus has paid the price of sin and overcome the world. When you believe in Him, confess your sin in repentance, accepting Him into your life as Saviour and acknowledging Him as the Lord of your life, then your whole life is transformed. From the moment of acceptance onward you live with hope eternal. You are Christ’s and He is your Lord, brother and friend. When you walk with Him then He walks with you.
With Jesus, life will never be the same because in Him you are a new creation. Rejoice in that fact and serve Him by being a carrier and sharer of the Light, today and every day.
