Joanne Lowe's Meditations

STUMBLING BLOCKS
"Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way."
Romans 14:13 (King James Version)
A mother sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.  The dad was a deacon in the church.  We think that these people are shining examples of Christians.  However, these same people yelled at each other and hit their children when they got home from church.
It is no wonder at all that our teenagers don't want to go to church.  They see the things their parents do and they hear the hateful words they say to one another and to them.  A teenager said "If that is what being a Christian is, I don't want anything to do with it".
One day we will stand before a Holy God and give an account of the things we said and the way we lived.  I don't know about you but I don't want to have to hang my head in shame because I was a stumbling block to people accepting Jesus as personal Saviour because of the things I did and my words.
What about you?  Are you a stumbling block to your family and your friends because of the cruel words you say and the things you do?  If Jesus were to return while you are reading this, would you be able to look Him in the eyes or would you have to hang your head in shame?
Heavenly Father, we confess that there are times when we sin and are stumbling blocks to our family and friends.  We're sorry.  Please have mercy on us and forgive us.  I pray that we will always do things and say words that make You happy.  Amen.
Joanne Lowe
