ARE YOU ANCHORED IN JESUS
“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.  Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.”
Psalm 107:29, 30 (King James Version)
Henry Gilmour wrote one of my favourite hymns “The Haven of Rest”.  Thank God for the Haven of rest.  The words in this hymn are precious to me.  “I’ve anchored my soul in the “Haven of Rest,” I’ll sail the wide seas no more; The tempest may sweep over wild, stormy, deep, In Jesus I’m safe evermore.”
It doesn’t matter how many trials and valleys we have in our life because when we are anchored in Jesus, we are safe from all danger.  Our precious Saviour is more than able to bring us through every crisis victoriously.  Jesus can do anything.  We can trust Him to protect us because what He says, He will do.
Are you anchored in Jesus?  You may be saved but do you trust Him to protect you and to bring you through the valleys of despair and discouragement?  He loves you so much.  When you are sad, it breaks His heart and He weeps when you cry.  No one loves you like Jesus loves you.
We are powerless to defeat satan when he hurls his vicious and poisonous darts of lies and discouragement at us.  It takes the power of Jesus to defeat satan.  When satan attacks us, we need to run as fast as we can into the waiting and open arms of Jesus and let Him protect us.
It would make satan very happy if he could discourage us from serving Jesus.  We must not let that happen!  After all that our precious Saviour has done for us, the least we can do for Him is serve Him.  Are you serving Jesus with all of your heart?

Hertz suspends Muslim shuttle drivers

Once again we witness a group of Muslims demanding special accommodations not afforded to anyone else. In the MSNBC story below (highlights added), we read that Hertz suspended Muslim shuttle drivers who took time off work to pray but did not clock out when doing so. (Not all Muslim shuttle drivers refused to clock out and those who did clock out were not suspended.)

Clocking out is a perfectly reasonable requirement—in spite of what a union official said. The union official said requiring the Muslim drivers to clock out to pray “is like having workers clock in and out for smoke breaks or bathroom breaks.”

No it isn’t!

In case you missed it, here’s another example of Muslims demanding special treatment. This time, it was at a New York theme park in August, where Muslim women were told that safety rules required they not wear headscarves on certain rides.

Again, sounds perfectly reasonable to us—but not to some of the Muslim women. A brawl erupted.

Some foolishly and incorrectly called this safety requirement further evidence of “Islamophobia.” Would those people be willing to pay the legal costs incurred by the park if a Muslim woman got strangled by her headscarf on a ride and then her family sued the park for not protecting her safety? Of course they wouldn’t.

A central element of radical Islam is an ideologically-based supremacist mindset that demands that societies accommodate them, rather than their assimilating into their host societies. This also reflects sharia law’s requirement that human laws must always be subordinate to Islamic law.

Muslim drivers suspended over praying time
The rental car company has suspended 34 drivers in Seattle, Wash., for praying on the job without clocking out.
By Al Olson

More than 30 Seattle-area Hertz shuttle drivers are without work in a clash over Muslim prayer, the Seattle Times reported Friday.  Hertz has "suspended indefinitely" 33 drivers — all of them observant Muslims who work out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Hertz contends the drivers are taking prayer breaks without clocking out first.

According to the Seattle Times:

While the drivers were allowed two, 10-minute breaks during their work shifts
during which they could pray, Teamsters officials said managers had agreed
in negotiations that workers would not have to clock out and in, though the
contact itself does not address the matter.

And the workers and their union said Hertz had previously not required that

workers clock out for prayer. The union said it has filed an unfair-labor-practices
complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Hertz for failing to
notify the union in advance of what it called a policy change.

But Hertz said the rules aren't new; that it had been trying for some time to

enforce the terms of an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission settlement
it reached with the workers two years ago that required them to clock out.

A Hertz spokesman said the workers had been repeatedly told they

needed tclock out and that the suspended workers had not complied.

The suspended drivers are members of Teamsters Local 117, which is attempting to

get the workers back in their shuttle vans.

“The company clearly is violating the intent of the contract and the actual language of

the contract,” said Tracey A. Thompson, secretary-treasurer of Local 117. “This is like
having workers clock in and out for smoke breaks or bathroom breaks.”

Thompson, who was at the negotiating table in the last round of contact talks, said that

this issue was discussed at length by both sides and they had a clear understanding
– and contract language – that protected the workers from punishment for prayer breaks.

Rich Broome, a spokesman for Hertz, told msnbc.com that Muslim drivers who clocked

out to pray were not suspended and that the company was trying to be fair to all workers.

In the meantime, the suspended workers have not been told when – or if – they will be

able to return to their jobs.

The Problem with the Church Today lies in the Commitment of Christians and Leaders

The following arrived on my desk from Revival Ministries, and i publish it here because I am happy to endorse what the writer says. There is no doubt that if all of those people who claim to be born-again Christians were as committed as they should be to the matters of the Kingdom, then the world would be turned inside out and transformed by their constant prayers. The need is for repentance and the seeking of God's forgiveness. Without either then our hope is diminished, not because it reduces the promise of Jesus Christ, but because lack of commitment is equivalent to putting God to one side.

"A BURDEN"
by Michael Carl

'Have you ever wondered how we can have million dollar church buildings and pack-in huge crowds on Sunday, but have no power in our witness? Do you wonder how about half of the people in this country  claim to have had a born again experience and how the churches are having so little of an impact? Have you been amazed at the fact that American society is becoming increasingly antagonistic to the church.

How can this be?

The answer seems to be that it's because the pastors in the pulpits have sold out to the 'Seeker Sensitive' movement. We've opted for programs, lights, smoke machines, stage props, and the prosperity Gospel.

Pastors preach the Gospel of Self-Fulfillment and talk about how we're destined to reign. Our pulpits echo with: 'God wants you to be happy' and 'You can have your best life now'. We have major tele-preachers holding 'camp meetings' where the 'preacher' shouts, 'Let's celebrate you!'

I heard a preacher say once that if you have trials in your life, then you don't have enough faith. What a ludicrous statement and how utterly un-Biblical!

Paul had more faith than most of us and he never stopped going through trials. We talk faith and prosperity while the church around the world grows in not merely number, but in depth and maturity. They see miracles and God's power; they sense His presence.

How? They've learned to persevere through trials. A Charismatic Episcopal Church Bishop in Pakistan had a Muslim slit his throat, throw him off of a bus and leave him for dead just because the Bishop was a Christian. But the Bishop's ministry grows and he sees the fruit.

Christians in other parts of the world weep for revival in the American church. What does that say about us?
It means that we are weak and self-absorbed.

I heard another television preacher turn the tables and suggest that a preacher who focused on subjects like F. F. Bruce's The Hard Sayings of Jesus was not preaching the Gospel and ignoring the truth of the Word! 'They didn't want to hear that' he claimed!

What utter disregard for the truth! Jesus said, '"The Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head,"' and told His followers of His coming arrest, trial, torture and crucifixion. This means we're deceived and taken with greed.

There are no tears for revival and the only One weeping is Jesus. He bled and died for us and we proclaim that the Gospel is a means to prosperity, power and influence. Church services look more like pop concerts and the preaching is only a babbling collection of self-absorbed slogans and how God wants us to be happy!

No, God wants us to be holy!

Where is the message of repentance? Where is the '"If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow Me"'?

Folks, the message of the cross is foolishness and offensive to the world. Paul told us that nineteen-and-a-half centuries ago. Paul also told us that if he wanted to please the world, he would not be a follower of Christ.

Can you imagine Elijah having a chat with the wicked King Ahab about how we can 'Coexist'? Or, do you think John the Baptist should have opened a dialogue with Herod about tolerance?

No, those mighty men of God were sent to confront the leaders of their time about the sin in the society! Why is it that our evangelicals spend their time trying to cozy up and make nice with our politicians while there are souls perishing hourly and going into a Christ-less eternity?

This is the message that will transform this culture and turn this country around.

CAIR leader speaks about al-Awlaki, but is conspicuously silent about Iranian Christian

CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad, in a column that appeared in USA Today (below, highlights added), takes the position that Anwar al-Awlaki and others like him should be accorded constitutional protections such as due process.

He is wrong. A cursory study of American history shows that “enemy combatants” are not entitled to constitutional protections. Anwar al-Awlaki was an “enemy combatant”—not just “any American” as Awad claims.

It’s revealing that CAIR wastes no time rallying to the “rights” of people like al-Awlaki while remaining conspicuously silent as an Iranian Christian, a former Muslim, faces the death penalty for being an “apostate.”

There’s a reason for this. CAIR has an agenda—the advance of sharia law. And in sharia law, the penalty for an adult male who leaves Islam is death.

Whenever CAIR speaks out about “rights” under our Constitution, remember that CAIR’s co-founder (Omar Ahmad) and CAIR’s current communications director (Ibrahim Hooper) have both made statements of support for Islamic law to reign supreme in America—which would obliterate the rights and freedoms we now enjoy.

Nihad Awad is the last person who should be lecturing American leaders about their “duty” to uphold the Constitution, given his organization’s support for sharia law and its vicious and dishonest attacks on anyone who dares to uphold the Constitution by opposing sharia law.

There is one thing Awad said with which we agree: “Their [our enemies’] only hope of an American victory is one we inflict on ourselves.”

And that self-inflicted wound begins with refusing to see who CAIR really is and believing the propaganda put out by CAIR and its fellow travellers.

Opposing view: Uphold America's founding principles
By Nihad Awad
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/story/2011-10-02/CAIR-Awlaki-Constitution-terrorism/50637334/1

Let's start where we agree. Anwar al-Awlaki was a propagandist for
violence and extremism. His repeated calls to kill Americans cannot be
denied or underestimated. The extent of his actual involvement in
terrorist operations is something the public is not privy to.

He was an Internet personality, not a scholar on Islam. He lacked the
authority to issue religious verdicts and rulings. Real Muslim scholars
refuted his twisted interpretations, but they lacked his charisma and
slick publishing apparatus. American Muslims condemned his video
messages endorsing the killing of Americans.

But now to the more difficult issue. The Fifth Amendment states, "No
person shall … be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due
process of law." We should reject any domestic or foreign policies
that diminish constitutional protections.

While the killings of Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan by a U.S. drone
strike may be popular with many, times and enemies have a tendency
to change.

If we accept that the president can order the killing of any American
without due process of law, the Constitution is rendered meaningless.

Even in the post-9/11 era, our leaders and military personnel have a
duty to uphold the Constitution.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has advocated for
hundreds of American Muslims denied due process when placed on
no-fly or watch lists. Citizens of all faiths and political persuasions
should know that their constitutional rights could be similarly denied
in some future national crisis.

We join the ACLU and other groups in urging Congress and the courts
to take up this issue.

Numerous studies show that drone strikes fuel anti-American anger
and boost recruiting for al-Qaeda. There is little evidence that the
attacks decrease the terror threat or make America any safer. In fact,
the opposite may be true.

Our nation's war on terror will not be won through force of arms. It will
be won when we are shown to be a nation in which respect for the law
transcends fear, and hostility toward today's enemies does not cause
us to forget our founding principles.

America's enemies can never win on the field of battle. Their only hope
of an American defeat is one we inflict on ourselves.

Joanne Lowe's Meditations

OUR WEAKEST POINT
“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you like wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
Luke 22:31, 32 (King James Version)
Did you know that satan will attack us at our weakest point?  All day yesterday, satan lied to me and told me that Jesus doesn’t love me.  For over forty years I really believed that no one loved me and that I didn’t deserve to live.  Thank God, I know that I do deserve to live and that Jesus does love me.
We must stay on the alert for the sneaky poisonous and vicious attacks of satan.  How comforting it is to know that Jesus does love us.  He proved His love for us when He allowed them to crucify Him for our sins.  Not only does He love us and died for us, He is also praying for us.  We have a tender loving Saviour.
I have received a lot of emails from people who are hurting and discouraged.  Even though Jesus is praying for us, it still hurts when satan attacks us and Jesus understands how we feel.  Jesus doesn’t condemn us when we get discouraged because He too got discouraged when He was here on earth.
When you feel led to pray for people, pray for them immediately.  When I am really hurting like I was yesterday, I can’t pray.  All I could do was say over and over “Jesus, I love You”.  If you know people who are hurting, hug them for Jesus.  God may use your hug to stop someone from committing suicide.
You may not feel comfortable hugging people but you can hug them with your words.  Tell them that Jesus loves them.  Have you hugged someone for Jesus today?

A hymn for your Harvest Festival Service

Harvest Time
The land is ripe for harvest,
Look upward for your Lord,
He’ll soon appear in glory,
As He promised in His Word.
He’s returning for the faithful.
For those who know Him true:
Make quite certain you are ready
When He calls out loud for you.
The land is ripe, the land is ripe,
The fields are white as new:
Hasten now to reap the crops,
For the labourers are but few.

We’re told it’s just a twinkling
Of an eye, it is so brief.
He’ll return in clouds of glory
For those with firm belief.
Yes, the land is ripe for harvest,
For the people to go home,
Yes, the land is ripe for harvest,
As He calls us for His own.
The land is ripe, the land is ripe,
The fields are white as new:
Hasten now to reap the crops,
For the labourers are but few.

Today I'm posting my Harvest Festival hymn once again, because there are still many churches who look for a suitable harvest hymn at this time of the year.  Whilst I think that Harvest Time fits the bill, it can be sung with just as much relevance at any time of the year of course.

Anwar al-Awlaki—bridge builder?

Over the past several weeks Act for America have talked a lot about “information warfare,” and how the Muslim Brotherhood and its front organizations in America have used it to successfully deceive and mislead many government officials, military leaders, members of the media, and academics.

This past September 11th, national security and terrorism correspondent Patrick Poole posted a well-researched commentary exposing how government Muslim outreach programs have frequently failed, leaving government officials with egg on their faces.

These programs often fail because too many in government fall for the disinformation they are fed. Regardless of the reason—ignorance, political correctness, gullibility, naivete’, willful blindness—the fact remains that these government outreach programs are littered with failures.

Perhaps the most notable example is that of Abdurahman Alamoudi, once the “go to” Muslim in Washington, now serving a 23 year prison sentence.

The “establishment media” play an important role in the Muslim Brotherhood information warfare campaign. On September 30th, in the “PJ Tatler,” Poole does a “rewind” in which he reminds anyone who will pay attention how jihadist leader Anwar al-Awlaki was once highly regarded.

Here are just two of Poole’s posts. Even if you don’t read them, the titles tell it all.

Rewind: New York Times hailed Awlaki as “a new generation of Muslim leader”

Rewind: NPR says Awlaki can “build bridges between Islam and the West”

Anwar al-Awlaki—“bridge builder.” It would be comic if it weren’t so tragic.

David Cameron and the Homosexual Agenda

Our Prime Minister, David Cameron, will be congratulated on the speech about marriage which he made at the Conservative Party Conference this week. He said that he believes a stronger society “starts with families.”  That is indeed an admirable and very true statement. There are few people who can rightfully ignore that the breakdown of society in this country has been largely orchestrated by those responsible for the breakdown of marriage and so talk of a return to 'family values' and the support of marriage will always be music to the ears of those of the electorate who are genuinely concerned about the state of the nation.

The breakdown of marriage has brought about a fractured society in which the values once held by the majority of people have been so marginalised by the liberal extremists in the main arena of the political circus that there is little or no respect for anything or anyone any more. Led by a liberal elite who have openly discarded the moral and ethical values of a balanced society, those who still dare to stand up for the values which used to be the bedrock of this nation are ridiculed and publicly pilloried for their beliefs.

There was once a time when this nation laid claims to being a Christian society, although I have to admit that what that meant, by and large, was that in general terms society followed the precepts of the 10 Commandments, rather than genuinely being followers of Jesus Christ, which is what being a Christian actually means. No wonder then, that Christians are increasingly sidelined and ridiculed for their beliefs in the modern-day secular nation in which we live.

The 'bedrock' concept and practise of marriage has been eroded by the ready acceptance of the increase in the illegitimate birthrate and by the relentless pursuit of the abortionists and the homosexual lobby to create a society in which 'equality' means that whatever an individual thinks is okay and desirous for them as a lifestyle should be legislated in favour. However, it should be recognised that no matter how many times you might shout that a particular issue or practise is right, it does not make it so by the noise of the pro-lobby alone.

Much has been said about the idea of homosexual unions cemented by the Civil Partnership route resulting in those concerned as being described as having been married, the fact of the matter is that, no matter how much vociferous noise is created by those in favour of such a description, marriage can only be a matter between a man and a woman. In terms of equality, the basis for much of Cameron's argument, the Civil Partnership ceremony protects those who favour this life-style choice quite adequately.

Cameron said in his speech:

“But for me, leadership on families also means speaking out on marriage. Marriage is not just a piece of paper. It pulls couples together through the ebb and flow of life. It gives children stability. And it says powerful things about what we should value. So yes, we will recognise marriage in the tax system.
“But we’re also doing something else. I once stood before a Conservative conference and said it shouldn’t matter whether commitment was between a man and a woman, a woman and a woman, or a man and another man. You applauded me for that. Five years on, we’re consulting on legalising gay marriage.
“And to anyone who has reservations, I say: Yes, it’s about equality, but it’s also about something else: commitment. Conservatives believe in the ties that bind us; that society is stronger when we make vows to each other and support each other. So I don’t support gay marriage despite being a Conservative. I support gay marriage because I’m a Conservative.”
Naturally, as a committed Christian, I take the Christian viewpoint on marriage, a factor for which I make no apology because I believe that the Biblical definition of marriage is the only correct one, and no amount of posturing by those who wish to change the definition for political gain or any other reason, will bring about a change of mind.
There is much talk regarding the rights of people in our society. If such talk was matched by mention of the corresponding responsibilities then perhaps our society would not be so fractured. It is my belief that homosexuality is a lifestyle choice, although I accept that the influences absorbed during upbringing will often nurture a proclivity towards that choice.
So, Mr Cameron, I say that you are wrong in your thinking when it comes to extending the legality of the term 'marriage' to same-sex couples, for they can never be married in the eyes of God, only in the eyes of man. Of course, all people have a right to live as they want to, providing that their choice is legal, and that right extends to all people. However, to attempt to redefine that which is laid down in Holy Writ puts you on a collision course with God Himself.

Funny Baptisms - Comedy Video

Levi Coby record new single for release later this month.

The last post spoke about my recent holiday in Wales, which we returned from last Saturday. This week I travelled about 250 miles to Clackmannanshire in Scotland to meet up with Levi Coby and record his latest song which will be his first to be released on the Sheer Joy Music lable (SJM). The new song is called Home, and is due for release towards the end of this month.
Levi Coby is a fresh new talent on the Country music scene, who already has acquired quite a large following thanks to videos on Youtube, and Sheer Joy Music are proud to be involved with him. If you like the sound of George Strait, Tim McGraw or Don Williams, then you will certainly be wowed by Levi Coby. Keep a lookout for this new release and buy it from CD Baby, iTunes or Amazon as soon as it is released. There will be more new on this Blog.
Whilst I was there for the recording I co-wrote a new song with Levi called Never Feel Alone, and this will be his follow-up single after Home. I predict that you will hear a lot more about Levi Coby. He's already beginning to create a stir in the Nashville, the home of Country Music.

A holiday in Wonderful Wales

We spent what turned out to be the best week of the year staying in The Gardener's Cottage, just outside Caernarfon in North Wales. A beautiful place to stay and some of the sunniest and warmest days of the year, all gathered together to make a memorable holiday. Of course, I admit to being biased when it comes to Wales, but nevertheless less there is no better place to spend a holiday than in the Principality in my (slightly biased) opinion!

Exterior
The cottage is situated in a really peaceful setting on the outskirts of Caernarfon, and overlooks a great garden, carefully and lovingly tended by the owner who lives next door. Sit outside on the terrace amongst all the pots of flowers, and spend a little time enjoying a drink and a book.
Carefully restored and refurbished, using a mix of antique and contemporary furniture and furnishings, all come together to make The Gardeners Cottage a wonderful, snug, romantic retreat. Central heating ensures year round cosiness. It's definitely a place where we will return for another holiday.

Sam always comes with us each year when we holiday in Wales. It is his place of birth after all, and so he needs to go there just as much as I do! Here he is following his usual practise of having his nose to the ground --- or to the slate in this case --- just outside the entrance to the cottage.

Here he is again, this time with me, framed in the cottage doorway.
We visited many places within a short drive from our cottage, the above being Beaumaris Castle on Anglesey. You could walk to the end of the drive and see the island just across the Menai Straits, which are in the picture below.
We went to Treaddur Bay on Anglesey, as well as visiting Llangefni and several other places such as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, which has the distinction of being the village with the longest name in the United Kingdom. The name means:
'St Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near to the rapid whirlpool of Llantysilio of the red cave.'
We also visited Criccieth (above) and Pwllheli whilst we were on our holiday. We found a great little shop in Pwllheli in Lower Cardiff Road, which was called Olivet, and sells Christian Book & Gifts. Call them on 07796 753700.
