Sam holidays in Wales once again!

We returned last Saturday from our week in the Gardener's Cottage which is a short distance from Caernarvon in North Wales. Sam loves it there as much as we do. Here's a picture of him relishing the freedom of a large garden to run about in and explore.
If you would like to experience this great holiday cottage for yourself, along with the hospitality that goes with it, you can find it by visiting the Menai Holidays website

Tales of Sam

Don't I look completely innocent, as if butter would not melt in my mouth. That's why everyone loves me, and when they see me out for a walk they say things like, "Aah! What a cute little dog!" Then I often growl at them, just for fun, and they change their minds a bit about the word 'cute.'
Whatever it is I didn't do it! You've got me worried now, trying to think what it's all about.
"Ah! Now I remember. Well, the thing is I didn't really mean to do it! Perhaps if I hang my head a little I'll be forgiven."

Sam goes to the forest

"Come on ..."
Yesterday afternoon we all went for a walk in Delamere Forest, which is not far from home. There's lots of nice things to see and lots of nice smells to sniff, at least for me, although for some reason I've noticed that humans don't seem to enjoy them like I do.
Whilst I was busy searching for new trails they wanted to look at the scenery! I know it looks beautiful, but it's not as much fun!
Ah! I think I'm on to something here.
I need to let them know, just in case they want to have a sniff as well . . .
I managed to get a picture of him whilst he was relaxing on a bench.
So many trees . . . It's a really doggy heaven!
Just one last sniff before we go home.

Sam says . . .

Hello!

I thought that I'd take over his Blog for today.
I've got some great pictures to share with you.
If you wonder why I think that they are GREAT then that's easy ...
they are pictures of ME!

I decided to play my favourite game, which is playing with a ball.
I've discovered that every time that I throw it towards him he kicks it back, which is a great game. In fact, if only he understood me better, I could do this all day long.
The trouble is that he seems to tire of the game after a while!

Anyway, today was the same as usual so I decided to get him to take these pictures of me. It was so easy!!! All I had to do was look cute, and that's so easy for me 'cos I am cute. I mean, how could anyone resist me when I give them one of my cute looks?

So that's it. I hope you like my pictures.

Sam & the Fireworks

Sam definitely does not like the sound of fireworks! In fact, he doesn't really like any sudden noises and so barks when someone shouts or runs past our window or if a car-door suddenly slams shut too near to the house. So you can imagine the way he would be with the constant bans and whizzes of fireworks! Of course, as I wrote on Monday, November 5th was Bonfire Night, and so that meant that there was going to be a few HOURS of noises. This was definitely not the best thing for a peaceful evening for us, but then a friend told us about his dog, which sounded as though they faced the same problem. But he had a solution! He recommended some doggie tranquilisers, so we bought some and HEY PRESTO! we had a peaceful evening. Not that Sam was zonked out, just calmed down, and so although he barked a couple of times, in the main he ignored the bangs, whizzes and whirls.
He suffered no after effects, and didn't sulk about it (He's prone to sulk if he doesn't get his own way, or if we do something he doesn't like).

Sam had a fit of the sulks!

Yesterday evening my wife Gill and I took our little dog Sam for a long walk. Earlier it had been raining, and Sam must have found every bit of mud possible to walk in! We'd driven to the 'walk-spot' and so on the way home we had to put him in the open back of the car from where he surveyed us by placing his paws on the top of the seat to look over.

Getting him home we had to get him up to the bathroom quickly for a bath, something that he's not too fond of. This operation I left to Gill, who's absolutely brilliant with him. After drying him off with the hair-dryer he was allowed back downstairs, but what a fit of the sulks he had!

His usual look of adoration which he gives to Gill was most definitely not there last night, for he sulked for most of the evening. Of course, he's still only eighteen months old, so I guess that in doggy years he's a teenager! That explains it all!
