THE SUPREMACY OF CHRIST
Paul’s Letter to the Colossians, Chapter 1, vv15-20 in the New American Standard is headed ’Christ’s Character’ and in the NIV it’s given the title ‘The Supremacy of Christ’ .What follows is an awesome description of the Lord:
He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation.
For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities ― all things were created by Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
He is also head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything.
For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. (NAS)
These days, when the name and position of Jesus is constantly being denied and abused, we can still be reassured that He reigns, and that it His divine will that will be done both in heaven and on earth. This is a good time to remind ourselves through whom and to whom we pray, and that He has the supremacy in absolutely everything.
It’s good to know that, as we pray, our faith rests on Him and not on ourselves! What a relief and what an assurance that is!
