I Saw You
So still
I saw you
sleeping,
in the early morning,
sunlight playing
around your lips,
parted —
Smiling.
memories of sleep
in your eyes,
visible.
Thoughts of yesterday
through a half-formed tear:
echoes of last words,
shadows of lost hopes,
perfumes,
acrid,
mingling.
Reaching down,
touching you —
needing you —
loving you.
my tears
falling
into the darkness.
Realisation comes —
you are not sleeping.
