Summer Rose
The child runs, laughing
down the track,
then stops to stare,
to wonder at
the subtle shades
of pink and red
that lie ensnared
within the foliage green.
A trembling hand,
reaching out
to touch
the velvet petals,
to taste the perfume
trapped within.
With love that
just a child knows,
enraptured,
captured,
by the summer rose.
